This is my personal blog, started in the fall of 2007 when I took off on a bike trip down the west coast of North America. That was back when I (arguably) had interesting things to say and worthwhile photos to post. Now that I am not doing anything remotely interesting with my life I am not exactly sure what the purpose of this blog will be beyond wowing you with my extensive vocabulary and incredible whit.

The following disclaimer still applies:

Perhaps it is easiest to state what this site is not to be used for, because really, all else goes. It is not to be used by potential employers creeping on my online profile in order to determine whether I am a suitable candidate (I am and you should hire me) nor any other form of sizing up, especially in comparison to Enid, the blogiest of bloggers. Otherwise, it is no holds barred. So, unleash your politically incorrect comments laden with sexual reference and offensive language. I will do the same. Consider this fair warning and an advanced apology to anyone I might offend.

As does this quip:

It is my hope that this site helps us keep in touch, freeing me from writing tedious mass emails, because quite frankly, I can't be bloggered.

Extra Large T-Shirt Contest for an Extra Small Guy

The long anticipated Summer of DTMB T-Shirt Contest is finally here. This is a chance for you to toast or roast Mike Brown in t-shirt form. What is it exactly about MB that makes him stand out to you? Is it his propensity to perform regular check-ins with friends and family, or his love of household chores and home maintenance? Perhaps you are impressed by the plethora of certificates, tickets and other accreditation's he holds, or you quite simply marvel at his one million friends. Surely, there is no shortage of unique identifiers associated with Mike Clown and there is no shortage of fodder for this t-shirt contest.

Over the next month I will be accepting design ideas. Please send a design file to ericgavinbrown@gmail.com and at the end of June all of the submissions will be posted to this blog. A vote will be held to decide on a winning t-shirt, which will be printed twice, once for the winning designer and once for the home owner himself. So leave the clowning around to the professional and get down to work.

Eldorado Cabin

Here are some photos from my Easter Weekend trip to Eldorado Cabin in the Southern Chilcotins, northwest of Lilooet BC. It was a phenomenal four days of skiing.

The view from the front porch of Eldorado Cabin.

J on top of the Big One, which I nearly died descending.

Fresh tracks.

How Campbell River Shaped Mike Brown

Isaac requested that I blog about how Campbell River has shaped who I am today, but I think it is pretty clear that Mike Brown is the most affected of the Brown brothers. Here is the proof:

1. Mike Brown bought a three bedroom rancher in Campbell River
2. Mike Brown adds an S to the end of the word somewhere (eg. Where's my beer? I know I put it down here somewhere's!)
3. As Isaac (an American) correctly pointed out following a skype conversation with him circa fall 2007, Mike Brown sounds like a hockey player.
4. Mike Brown recently phoned me up to tell me he had spent his Friday night shooting guns and drinking beer in one of the local sand pits.
5. He thought this was awesome and now wants to buy a gun.

Encounters with Canada

I just saw former leader and founding member of the Green Party of BC, Adriane Carr, at Famous Foods on Kingsway and King Edward. I got a surge of butterflies when I passed her in the isle - the kind where your chest feels light, your knees feel like rubber, your skin gets itchy and your head feels like it is floating 10km above the rest of your body.

The last time I had this feeling was when I sat in front of former Liberal Environment Minister, David Anderson, on an Ottawa bus. I stalked him all the way to Parliament Hill, where I introduced myself as if it mattered to him. Gawd, I am such a fool. Do you think he remembers?

When I met Former Deputy Priminister, Sheila Copps, on a Wesjet flight to Hamilton, I called her by her first name and sat down beside her. But I was in first year university at this point, and hadn't learned to be subtle about my political crushes.

For the record: Adriane did not bring her own bags (I know because I timed my check-out with hers) but she did smile at me.

Bridezillian Quote

On the subject of the wedding registry...

Me: "So you want us to by your gifts from the Bay?"
Beth: "Well, if people are going to buy us gifts, we don't want them using their own bad taste."

Lac La Biche County

The internet is full of gems this morning. Did you know there is a county in Northern Alberta by the name of Lac La Biche? I didn't even know that Western Canada had counties...

FYI: Bitch lake County is hiring a planning assistant.

One of these interns is not like the other...

I was looking at internships offered by the International Institute for Sustainable Development when I came across this photo.

Whether it is the thyroid meds or not, I'd say Gmax has come a long way in his predisposition toward biz-caj.

Background: Graeme had a thyroid condition that had him cycling around Vancouver in the winter wearing shorts and a t-shirt. For years, this was Graeme's sole attire. He was that hot. Since having his thyroid nuked he has become a lot more fashionable.
